Stats of Worldwide Smartphone Market share in Q3 is out; here are the top 5 smartphone brands

The Worldwide Smartphone Market Share of Q3 was recently released by IDC (International Data Corporation). Like every year, prominent smartphone manufacturers such as Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo have stood top with other manufacturers covering the rest of the global market.

Though there was an outstanding growth of worldwide shipments in the early quarters of 2021, the third quarter (Q3) of 2021 has rapidly declined to 6.7% YOY (year over year). This decline has occurred due to the component shortage and the supply chain issue, leading to a massive decline than the forecasted decline, which was only 2.9%.

Here are the stats provided by “IDC Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker,” which includes information about worldwide shipments, market share, and YOY growth of Q3 2021.

Regarding the decline, Nabila Popal (Research director of IDC) has stated that “The supply chain and component shortage issues have finally caught up to the smartphone market, which until now seemed almost immune to this issue despite its adverse impact on many other adjacent industries.”

From the bar graph and stats, we can see that the global market share of 2021is covered by Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, and other manufacturers.

Here are the top five mobile phone companies of 2021 Q3 Unit Market Share;

  • Samsung – 20.8%
  • Apple – 15.2%
  • Xiaomi – 13.4%
  • Vivo – 10.1%
  • Oppo – 10.0%
  • Other mobile phone companies – 30.5%

As per the stats, Samsung has stood first in the Global market share with 69 million units sold, but there is a decrease of -20.8% YOY. Whereas Xiaomi lost its place to Apple with 44.3 million sold and registered a -4.6% YOY decrease.

When it comes to Vivo and Oppo, they have a similar market share of 10.1% and 10.0%, respectively. Just like Samsung and Xiaomi, the Vivo and Oppo have also registered a decrease in YOY.

In the Q3 of 2021, Apple has done very well by selling 50.4 million devices, and it is the only company with an increase of YOY featuring +20.8%.

Talking about the Chinese market alone, Vivo leads with 23% market share, followed by Oppo with 20% market share. Whereas Honor, Xiaomi, and Apple stood in the third, fourth, and fifth places respectively.

Highlights of Q3 2021:

  1. The YOY of Global markets has declined to -6.7% due to component shortage and supply chain issues.
  2. Apple is the only company unaffected in Q3, 2021, with an improved market share. The YOY of Apple has also registered an increase of +20.8%.
  3. As Oneplus has merged with Oppo, the stats of Oppo and Oneplus are displayed under the same manufacturer as Oppo.
  4. The Honor has made its come back in the Chinese markets beating Xiaomi in Q3, 2021.
  5. Apple has also retained its position by beating Xiaomi in Q3, 2021.

We might expect an increase in the YOY of 2022 if the component shortage and shipment constraints are less effective than in 2021.
